	La Grouw is racing the pigeons on total widowhood. So he is doing already for years and the main reason is that he likes to know more about the quality of the hens. As well the fancier as the pigeons, especially the hens had to learn this way of racing. In the beginning the hens started to be mated with each other and I noticed that basketing the hens every week is the best remedy against their feelings to make a nest. During the season I visit the specialized pigeon vet Hans van der Sluis every 3 weeks and if he states that the pigeons are in a good health I never use any medicine. The most important is from my point of view that you must start with pigeons which have from their origin an excellent health. Thinking that you always have the best pigeons is a mistake and I am always looking for better pigeons. Once the loft proved to be a good one I did not change any thing ; it's still the same as years ago.

I was lucky to come into the possession of my Van Loon Pair because all their youngsters are easy to cross with other bloodlines/strains. The young pigeons are raced in a natural way. No darkening, not mated and the first 4 or 5 weeks not separating the cocks from the hens. The last 3 weeks of the young birds season I race the youngster, as we say " on the door", so cocks and hens separated and a few hours before basketing they can make their own party.
